NASA Mars Lander Sees Falling Snow

PASADENA, Calif. -- NASA's Phoenix Mars Lander has detected snow falling from Martian clouds. Spacecraft soil experiments also have provided evidence of past interaction between minerals and liquid water, processes that occur on Earth.

A laser instrument designed to gather knowledge of how the atmosphere and surface interact on Mars has detected snow from clouds about 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) above the spacecraft's landing site. Data show the snow vaporizing before reaching the ground.

It's Christmas on Mars!

I learned a few amazing things about seeds from this video, that there's such a thing as a "seed morphologist" and that these scientists have the fun job of photographing seeds and fruits under high powered microscopes and putting them together in to this amazing short video. (Can't figure out how to embed the video, sorry).

Seeds develop the ability to grow everything from hooks to wings to fatty nodules just to get around, and wow, peach skin looks more than a little freaky up close. Eeep.

Rainbow Teeth

This is fucked up. And kind of awesome. Collapse )

Apparently it's caused by "biliary atresia," a congenital condition where the draining of bile from the liver to the small intestine is interfered with.

Wikipedia didn't say anything about colored toofs, so I am not sure of exactly how the tooth color changes. Can anyone explain further?
