The owl featured is a Southern White Faced Scops owl from South Africa called Popochan. As soon as it saw the slightly larger barn owl, Popochan will raise its wings high and pump up its plumage to increase its volume to increase its aggressiveness.

However when it was presented a larger Eagle owl, Popochan tries to hide its presence and decreases its volume by contracting its plumage.

1 videoclip of Popochan the Transformers Owl after the jump.

Moar info.

So I work in the bird area of a zoo during the summer and I learned a surprising fact that I don't think I've seen here.

There is a WORLDWIDE shortage of mealworms because they aren't breeding, at least that's what everyone is assuming. At the zoo we are not allowed to recieve shipments and cannot feed out any that we already had. I think the same is happening for waxworms but not as dire because we feed out some to the sick peacock.

I don't have anything else on this, like a story or something so if anyone finds anything else out that would be cool.
