Lemme present you one of the sluggiest mushrooms: Limacella illinata.
After the rain, fresh caps look like this:
Limacella are close to Amanita, but their general velum is sluggy instead of membranous. This species shows the character at its extreme. So no volva, but slime.
Their ecology ain't exactly known: at least, some are supposed to be mycorhizal, but other seem just terricole.
