The park rangers, however, are worried that the python may be competing for the top of the food chain with the alligators. The snake, among the six largest species in the world, is often released into the wild when novice reptile enthusiasts realize just how big it actually will be, and is a frequent headache for park rangers and other police officers. They're also usually the species involved in the "I don't have a snake, but one seems to have materialized on my property somehow" stories you hear every now and then.
